During President Nana Addo
Dankwa Akufo-Addo's final State of the Nation Address in Parliament on January
3, 2025, his security guard, Colonel Isaac Amponsah, collapsed. The incident
occurred as the President was delivering his speech.
Swift intervention by the
various security personnel present at parliament including the national
ambulance service helped secure the matter.
Colonel Amponsah, who has served
as the President's Aide-De-Camp (ADC) since February 2023, reportedly suffered a
medical emergency during the address. He was seen regaining consciousness and
being escorted out of the parliamentary chamber. Further details regarding his
condition have not been disclosed.
Before his ADC appointment,
Colonel Amponsah held positions as Chief Instructor at the Military Training
Academy and was stationed at the Defence Intelligence Unit at General
Headquarters. He succeeded Major-General Bismark Onuonah in February
2023.
The President continued with his
address following the incident. Updates on Colonel Amponsah's health are
awaited.
